as long as there is room, and will be directed to the appropriate net

Big Ball Rules

  • Serve must be unassisted.

  • Server must serve from the right hand side (facing the net) back row.

  • After the serve, the ball must be touched by at least two players before it is returned to the serving side.

  • Any player must not have more than 2 consecutive hits.

  • No player may touch the net or reach over the net while the ball is in play.

  • No player may "throw" the ball as opposed to "hitting" the ball.

  • If a ball touches a noodle boundary and lands in, it is "in", if it lands out, it is "out".

  • Any ball that touches the walls, ceiling, railings, poles, or any other facility surface is out of play.

  • Game concludes when one team reaches a score of 15, or wins by 2 points over 15

Competitive Rules

A competitive, faster game with a smaller ball , and rules for a more disciplined game. Occasionally competes with surrounding communities.

  • Serve must be unassisted and clear the net, but may touch it.

  • Server must serve from the right hand side (facing the net) back row.

  • Any player must not have more than 1 consecutive hit.

  • No player may touch the net or reach over the net while the ball is in play.

  • No player may "throw" the ball as opposed to "hitting" the ball.

  • If a ball touches a noodle boundary and lands in, it is "in", if it lands out, it is "out".

  • Any ball that touches the walls, ceiling, railings, poles, or any other facility surface is out of play.

  • Game concludes when one team reaches a score of 15, or by a two point spread when over 15.

While Competitive Net requires evaluation,
the Big Ball level also has minimum requirements:

  • Serve the ball over the net

  • Keep the ball in play

  • Turn head and body to follow the ball

  • Stand freely in water

  • Move towards the ball with minimal difficulty

  • Hold hands up during active play

The evaluation to play competitively includes showing a proficiency in in serving, passing, attending to play, ability to play within rules, self-initiated effort, consistency, and more.

Evaluation is necessary for the safety of all players.

Schedule Change due to Palm Ridge Maintenance:
Palm Ridge Pool is closed from Aug 3rd through Sept 6th. However, Water Volleyball with be playing on Tuesdays at RH Johnson Pool from 3:00 - 5:00pm

Palm Ridge Rec Center
is closed until September 6
